Kristian Vedel

Back

Kristian Vedel served his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker and afterwards he received training as a furniture designer at the School of Decorative Art in Copenhagen under the tutelage of Kaare Klint.  He has been his own master since 1955.  For a number of years, like many other young furniture designers, he participated in the furniture exhibitions of the Cabinetmakers' Guild.  His breakthrough came in 1958 with a series of articles of everyday use in melamine plastic when for the first time esthetically brilliant use of plastics was demonstrated.  He has later on added on to this series.  With his Modus furniture series he has shown his mastery of a taut and precise design system which has made the collection for Soren Willadsen a noteworthy achievement of Danish furniture.  Kristian Vedel is president of the Association of Danish Industrial Designers (I.D.D.). ~ Mobilia edition 146, September 1967
